Two dead in small plane crash in Tompkins County
Two people died Sunday afternoon following a small plane crash in the Town of Enfield, near North Applegate Road in Tompkins County. The aircraft, identified as a 1977 Lake LA-4-200, had departed from Ithaca Tompkins International Airport at 11:24 a.m. and made its final contact with the airport tower at 12:02 p.m.
The plane’s owner, 52-year-old David Kornreich, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant, 31-year-old Andrew R. Harrell, was transported to Cayuga Medical Center in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
A witness reported the crash at approximately 12:35 p.m. and indicated that the aircraft appeared to be experiencing mechanical problems before going down. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
