Alessandro Alessandrini, 53, and Raffaella Bruni, 57, were killed instantly when the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV they were driving lost control on the Appian Way (state road 7) near kilometer 48.700 in the Le Castella area of Cisterna di Latina on 13 July. The vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, struck a brick wall, rolled onto its side and collided with a large tree, leaving the occupants trapped inside the mangled shell. Rescue crews used hydraulic tools to reach the victims, but the 118 emergency service could only confirm their deaths.

Police investigations are examining potential causes such as a sudden medical episode, driver distraction or a mechanical fault. The SUV has been seized and autopsies ordered to determine the exact reasons for the loss of control.
