Two deaths reported at Electric Daisy Carnival festival in Medellín

Two individuals have died following medical emergencies during the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) electronic music festival held in Medellín, Colombia, at the Atanasio Girardot Sports Unit.

Ajay Bhatnagar, a 51-year-old British oncologist and radiotherapist with extensive professional experience in the United States, passed away on October 12. After feeling unwell during the event, he was taken to the Clínica El Rosario, where his condition worsened. Reports indicate that toxicology exams conducted abroad showed positive results for cocaine, amphetamines, and alcohol.

Additionally, Ismael Gerardo Méndez Huertas, a 27-year-old Costa Rican citizen, was found unconscious during the festival. His family has launched a fundraising campaign, titled ‘Unidos por Ismael: Queremos traerte de vuelta a casa’, to cover the high costs of repatriating his body to Costa Rica. The Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed his death and stated that the consulate in Bogotá is assisting with the necessary procedures with Colombian authorities.
