Two Documentaries Celebrate Brazilian Singer Preta Gil on First Death Anniversary
Brazilian singer and entrepreneur Preta Gil, who died on 20 July 2025 at age 50 from colorectal cancer, was honored on the first anniversary of her death with two separate documentary films released on 20 July 2026. The special series “Quanto Mais Preta, Melhor” presented “Meu Nome é Preta”, produced by her stepmother Flora Gil and focused on family testimonies, debuting on the same day and scheduled for weekly broadcasts until 8 August. At the same time, Globoplay released “Preta: Eu Não Ando Só”, a film featuring friends and fulfilling a wish expressed by Preta Gil while she was alive.
The parallel releases reflect a rift between family and friends over how her story should be told. Flora Gil’s social‑media tribute omitted close friend Malu Barbosa, sparking fan speculation about strained relations between the two groups. Both documentaries are now available on the streaming platform Globoplay.
