Two elderly individuals die on Portuguese beaches

An approximately 80‑year‑old woman who had been missing since early Tuesday was found dead in the River Lima near Praia da Argaçosa in Viana do Castelo, northern Portugal. Lifeguards raised an alert at 09:30 and discovered her body floating in the water.

Later the same day, an 88‑year‑old man suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on São Torpes beach in Sines, Alentejo. An alert was issued at 16:53 and emergency teams—including the Maritime Police, Seawatch, medical rescue, and local firefighters—arrived on scene. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead at the beach and his body was transferred to the local health unit.
