Two Fatal Falls in Istanbul Kill Journalist’s Son and Young Man

On 28 December, Mehmet Direncan Aykol, the 34‑year‑old son of veteran journalist Hüseyin Aykol, fell from the fifth floor of his apartment in Istanbul’s Fatih district and died. His body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy before burial in Yenibosna.

Earlier, on 20 July, 28‑year‑old Emirhan Yıldız fell from the 16th floor of a building in the Koza neighbourhood of Istanbul and was declared dead at the scene. Police detained five people, investigating a possible financial dispute that may have motivated the fall, and the case was referred to the prosecutor’s office for further inquiry.
