Fatal motorcycle crashes kill young riders in Lombardy, Italy
An 18‑year‑old motorcyclist, Edoardo Bartesaghi of Mandello del Lario, died after his stalled bike was struck by a car on the SS36 near Abbadia Lariana in the early hours of 14 June 2026. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene while the 45‑year‑old driver was taken to hospital in stable condition.
In a separate incident the same night, 30‑year‑old Marco Dellaira, originally from Termini Imerese and living in Bergamo, was killed when his Yamaha 650 lost control on a roundabout in Zingonia, Bergamo province. The bike hit a curb, a metal base and a guardrail before the rider succumbed to injuries despite prolonged resuscitation attempts. Police are investigating possible sudden illness or a micro‑sleep as causes. Dellaira, a well‑known barman at the hospital bar “La Marianna”, was taken to Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital and will be returned to Sicily for his funeral.
