Multiple road accidents across Brazil claim one life and injure dozens on June 20
A series of traffic accidents unfolded on Brazil’s highways on Saturday, June 20. In Betim, Minas Gerais, a 13‑vehicle pile‑up on BR‑262 in dense fog killed one person and injured seven others. The crash involved eight cars, three trucks and two motorcycles and forced partial closure of the road.
In Cascavel, Paraná, a tourist bus carrying 22 passengers overturned on BR‑277 after the driver attempted to avoid a slowing car in rainy conditions. Fourteen people were hurt, two of them seriously, and emergency services dispatched nine ambulances.
Other incidents included a motorcycle rear‑end collision on BR‑356 near Amarantina, where the rider lacked a proper licence and refused a breath test; a fatal collision between a car and a truck on BR‑153 near Concórdia that killed a 25‑year‑old driver; and a hit‑and‑run involving a cyclist on BR‑494 in Divinópolis that resulted in a 35‑year‑old cyclist’s death. Additional crashes on BR‑101, PR‑340, and local streets caused further injuries but no additional fatalities.
Authorities responded with fire‑fighter rescue teams, police investigations and medical transport for the victims, while many roads experienced temporary closures and traffic delays.
