79-year-old killed in Belluno tunnel while retrieving car mirror

On 3 July, 79‑year‑old Roberto Penso of Spinea was fatally struck inside the Listolade tunnel in the Belluno province. While walking in the tunnel, he left his car to recover a broken piece of the vehicle’s rear‑view mirror, a maneuver that proved fatal.

A 66‑year‑old driver from Mogliano Venezia collided with Penso, killing him on impact. Police closed the tunnel and diverted traffic while investigators recorded the scene. Penso’s wife, who was with him, was taken to hospital for examinations.

Authorities are reviewing the incident to determine liability and have asked for any surveillance footage from the tunnel.
