Two Fatal Vehicle Collisions Spur Justice Demands in State of Mexico

Brenda Michel was struck by a vehicle on 28 June in the Sierra Hermosa neighborhood of Tecámac, State of Mexico, and died on 3 July after several days in hospital. A video of the incident spread on social media, prompting public outrage. Her relatives and local residents have called for a thorough investigation and for the driver, who fled the scene, to be identified and held accountable.

Lili lost her life on 31 October 2025 after a municipal police patrol collided with her at a crossroads in Toluca, State of Mexico. Her mother, Verónica Manjarrez Vilchis, has accused Toluca’s mayor of indifference and alleged that authorities are protecting the officers involved. She is demanding that the case be re‑examined, including the possible reclassification of the homicide as a femicide, and has criticized mishandling of evidence and the continued duty of the accused officers.

Both families are seeking justice and clearer accountability from public officials.
