Mexicali security crackdown detains suspects after two FESC agents killed

In the span of less than 24 hours, two members of the Baja California State Security Force (FESC) were killed in separate attacks in Mexicali. The first fatality was Officer Rubén López Garduño, whose wife also died, and the second was Officer Manuel Enrique Guerrero, shot outside a taquería, leaving a woman gravely wounded.

State and federal authorities launched an inter‑agency operation called “Valle de Mexicali,” involving the State Security Secretariat, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard and the Army. The operation resulted in the detention of five people, two of whom are linked to the perpetrators of the agents’ murders, and the seizure of four vehicles, two short firearms, and marijuana. Separate raids in the border town of Miguel Alemán led to the arrest of two armed men, one found with a Glock 19 and the other with a .40‑caliber Springfield pistol.

Officials allege the attacks are retaliatory actions by the criminal group known as “Los Rusos” in response to recent operations against its members, including the killing of a suspect dubbed “El Wicho.” The ongoing investigations continue as authorities seek further arrests and evidence.
