Two footballers die in highway accident in Mexico
Two amateur footballers, Ignacio Moreno Fernández, 28, and Carlos Alfonso Ramírez Guevara, 26, died following a vehicle collision on the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway near Palmar de Bravo. The victims were traveling in a compact Ford vehicle returning to Atlixco, Puebla, after participating in a football match in Tehuacán.
The accident occurred when the car struck the rear of a cargo truck. A third passenger, 21-year-old Abigail Torres Sánchez, survived the impact but remains in serious condition with multiple injuries and fractures.
Moreno, known in the amateur circuit as ‘Nacho Porte’, was a prominent goalkeeper who had recently been called up to the Mexican Street Soccer National Team to prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Mexico City. His career included stints in youth academies for Pachuca, Club Puebla, and Lobos BUAP before finding success in street soccer, where he helped Puebla secure back-to-back national championships in 2025 and 2026.
