Two Friends Drown After Rogue Wave Hits Vizag Beach on Friendship Day

On Friendship Day, a group of seven friends gathered at Old Gangavaram Beach in Visakhapatnam to celebrate an upcoming engagement. While recording a video on the Suswagatham Rock, a rogue wave struck, sweeping 19‑year‑old student Sukara Neethu into the sea.

Kurasala Damodar, 30, an autorickshaw driver, immediately jumped in to rescue her but was also carried away by the strong currents. Police, the Indian Coast Guard and rescue teams launched a search using a helicopter and drones, but the two remained missing as of Sunday evening.
