NDLEA arrests businessman in Nigeria and fatal hit-and-run in Thailand

In Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 38-year-old businessman Philip Tunde at Lagos's Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Tunde was allegedly attempting to smuggle 4.8kg of cocaine to Milan, Italy, concealed within the soles of eight pairs of shoes and the railings of four travelling bags. Tunde reportedly claimed he used compensation from a previous injury in Italy to fund the 16 million Naira cocaine purchase.

In a broader crackdown, the NDLEA also intercepted cannabis and codeine-based cough syrup consignments valued at over 5 billion Naira at the Apapa, Tin Can Island, and Onne ports. These seizures included large quantities of Thai Loud cannabis and thousands of bottles of codeine syrup.

Separately, in Thailand, two German tourists, aged 63 and 64, were killed in a hit-and-run accident in Khao Lak. A 37-year-old driver allegedly ignored a red light at a pedestrian crossing before striking the victims and fleeing the scene. The driver later surrendered to the police and faces charges of negligent homicide and reckless driving.
