Two girls resuscitated after drowning in Betim lagoon

Two girls, aged 7 and 9, were successfully resuscitated after drowning in the Várzea das Flores lagoon in Betim, Minas Gerais, on Sunday. The children, who are not relatives, disappeared while playing near the water.

Bathers at the location discovered the girls missing and began searching for them. One child was found unconscious, followed shortly by the second. Bystanders performed initial CPR before firefighters and emergency medical services arrived to continue resuscitation protocols. Both girls had their circulation restored and were stabilized on-site. They were transported to the Betim Regional Hospital with stabilized pulses, though they remained unconscious at the time of admission.
