Two Italian teenagers convicted for vandalism in Swieqi

Two Italian teenagers, aged 18 and 17, have been convicted for vandalizing parked vehicles in Swieqi, Malta. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM on August 20, when a group of youths was captured on CCTV damaging several cars, including two Mercedes-Benz vehicles and two Fiats.

The suspects were arrested at Malta International Airport while attempting to depart the country. Both individuals pleaded guilty and expressed remorse, offering apologies to the victims and the local community. They also agreed to pay 2,021 euros in damages.

Magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil sentenced the 18-year-old to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, and the 17-year-old to eight months, also suspended for two years. Following the court ruling, both individuals were handed over to immigration authorities to begin deportation proceedings. Maltese Interior Minister Glenn Bedingfield stated that those who misbehave in Malta will face consequences, noting that the country is ‘not anyone’s playground’.
