Two Kenyan boys drown in separate incidents in Makueni and Mombasa

A 13-year-old boy drowned while fetching water from the Athi River in Mbooni East Sub‑County, Makueni County on Saturday evening. Police recovered his body with the help of local residents and classified the case as a drowning, urging residents—especially children—to avoid rivers during strong currents.

An eight-year‑year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at the Footprints on Earth apartments in Nyali, Mombasa County during a birthday party. He was pulled from the water, taken to Premier Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Police have opened an investigation and warned parents to closely supervise children around water bodies.

Both incidents prompted Kenyan police to advise heightened caution and supervision to prevent further child drownings.
