Two Kenyan police officers killed in Garissa IED attack

Two police officers were killed on Friday morning after their vehicle struck a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) along the Saretho–Dadaab Main Supply Route in Garissa County, Kenya.

The victims have been identified as Hagadera Officer Commanding Police Division Stephen Ekirapa, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and his driver, Corporal David Rotich. The explosion, which occurred around 6 a.m., severely damaged the Toyota Land Cruiser attached to the Hagadera Police Station.

While no group has officially claimed responsibility, preliminary assessments by security sources point to suspected al-Shabaab militants or local sympathizers. Security operations have been intensified in the area, with Garissa County Police Commander Samson Chelugo placing border security units on high alert. The Saretho–Dadaab corridor is a critical route for security and supplies near the Kenya–Somalia border and the Dadaab refugee complex, an area frequently targeted by militants.
