Two killed in apartment fire in Curitiba, Brazil, building sealed off

A fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday, July 12 in an apartment on Rua Conselheiro Laurindo in central Curitiba. The blaze killed a man and a woman, while a third resident was rescued with serious injuries. Approximately 25 occupants were in the building at the time; some were sheltered by relatives, and nine were placed in temporary shelters.

The fire destroyed the ground‑floor unit where it started and spread to a third‑floor apartment. After the flames were contained, fire officials ordered the building to be sealed, pending a structural safety assessment and required repairs before any residents can return.

The victims' bodies were taken to Curitiba’s forensic police for identification, and a police inquiry will investigate the cause of the fire, including the condition of the apartment’s installations.
