Two killed in Hudson Valley head-on collision

Two people were killed in a head-on collision on Route 28 in the Town of Olive, Ulster County, on Sunday morning. New York State Troopers reported that the crash occurred just before 6:50 a.m. when a 19-year-old driver, Peter B. Bonenfant, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a Mercedes-Benz.

Bonenfant, a Smithtown West graduate who had committed to playing Division I lacrosse at Queens University of Charlotte, died at HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. The other driver, 72-year-old Philip F. Jacobus, was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he also succumbed to his injuries.

Jacobus was a Kingston resident and a prominent figure in the medical industry. He was the founder and President of Owen Kane Holdings and the creator and CEO of DOTmed, a medical equipment marketplace. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
