Two killed in wrong-way DUI crash on I-680 in Concord

A suspected drunk driver traveling the wrong way on northbound Interstate 680 killed two people and seriously injured three others in Concord early Monday morning, October 19, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a black Lexus sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Chevrolet sedan just south of the Willow Pass Road exit. The two passengers in the rear seats of the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene. The Lexus driver, a front-seat passenger, and the driver of the Chevrolet were all hospitalized with major injuries.

Investigators determined that the front-seat passenger and one rear-seat passenger in the Lexus were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
