Two Lefkoşa Criminal Cases Result in Arrests and Short Sentences

On 3 August 2026, a 65‑year‑old man identified as M. E. E., a Turkish‑Cypriot citizen, was arrested in Lefkoşa after threatening to shoot a driver with a licensed pistol during a traffic dispute. He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm for intimidation and making a threat of violence. The court ordered a cash bail of 50,000 TRY, a travel ban and required two guarantors to provide guarantees of 900,000 TRY each.

On 2 August 2026, a 16‑year‑old boy identified as A. Y. stabbed his brother during an argument over a charger. The victim was taken to Lefkoşa State Hospital, treated and discharged. Police seized the knife used as evidence and noted that A. Y. had been residing in the territory without a permit since February 2023. The court sentenced A. Y. to a custodial term of up to ten days.

Both incidents were investigated by Lefkoşa police officers, including Ali Yeşildal, and adjudicated by Judge Şevket Gazi.
