Two passengers restrained on Melbourne to Doha flight after violent altercation
Two male passengers were restrained mid-flight on a Virgin Australia flight (VA7) operated by Qatar Airways after a violent altercation on a journey from Melbourne to Doha. Witnesses reported that the men, described by one passenger as brothers, appeared agitated from boarding and eventually escalated into physical violence approximately six hours into the flight.
According to passenger accounts, the men allegedly made threats involving a firearm and engaged in aggressive behavior, including spitting at and headbutting cabin crew. Fellow travelers reportedly assisted the crew in restraining the individuals, with some reports indicating that cable ties were used to secure them.
Qatar Airways confirmed that the two men were involved in a physical altercation and were handed over to local authorities in Doha upon the aircraft's arrival. The airline stated that the safety and wellbeing of its crew and passengers remain its highest priority.
