Two men arrested for $1.3 million 49ers player impersonation scam

Two men, Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, have been arrested for allegedly scamming more than 26 women out of $1.3 million by posing as a wealthy San Francisco 49ers player and a financial advisor.

According to the Department of Justice, the scheme began in February 2022. Love allegedly used online dating apps to meet victims, portraying himself as a professional football player with a lucrative NFL contract and successful real estate investments. He reportedly used social media to showcase a luxury lifestyle, including photos in 49ers gear, to build credibility. Chan allegedly acted as Love’s financial advisor to validate fictitious investment opportunities.

The duo was taken into custody at an airport in Boise, Idaho, on August 24, after investigators determined Love was traveling to meet new targets. The alleged fraud spanned multiple states, including California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. Both men face federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
