Two men arrested for alleged cooking oil theft in Beverly, Massachusetts

Two men, Jesús del Orbe Escolástico and Osmin Velásquez Ramos, were arrested in Beverly, Massachusetts, for their alleged involvement in stealing used cooking oil from two local restaurants.

Police responded to reports of suspicious activity involving a large white van near Cabot Street early Friday morning. Officers discovered the suspects inside the vehicle and observed fresh oil and grease residue on the ground near the establishments. Preliminary investigations suggest the men extracted used oil from the restaurants' grease traps.

Authorities recovered oil valued at approximately $2,750, a substance that holds resale value for companies recycling it into biofuels. The suspects face charges including breaking and entering a depot, possession of burglary tools, and vandalism. Both men, residents of Yonkers, New York, were released on $5,000 cash bail and are scheduled to return to court in November.
