Two men arrested in connection with death of Coldstream Guards soldier
Two men, aged 22 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of Liam Potts, a 22-year-old soldier in the Coldstream Guards. Mr. Potts’s body was discovered in the River Tyne near Wylam Bridge in Northumberland after he went missing following a night out on August 15.
Northumbria Police are investigating whether a reported disturbance and a subsequent collision involving a vehicle and pedestrians on the bridge led to Mr. Potts entering the water. While police previously stated they did not believe there was third-party involvement when the body was first found, further inquiries led to the re-arrest of the two men.
Mr. Potts was not in the vehicle involved in the collision, nor was he struck by it. A man and a woman in their 20s sustained serious injuries in the collision; the woman has been discharged from the hospital, while the man remains under medical care. Mr. Potts’s next-of-kin have been informed of the discovery.
