Two men charged in attempted sexual assault of trans woman in Madison

Two men, Yorfred Gutierrez, 31, and Arturo Santos Albujas, 27, face multiple felony charges following an alleged violent attack on a transgender woman at a University of Wisconsin–Madison campus pier on Lake Mendota.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court, the victim met the men on State Street in the early hours of August 29. She alleges the men lured her to a pier under the pretense of seeing a boat, then attacked her when she attempted to leave. The complaint states the woman was beaten, dragged, and restrained during an attempted sexual assault. The victim reported to police that she feared for her life.

Witness accounts and surveillance footage have reportedly corroborated significant portions of the victim's account. Following the incident, the woman was hospitalized with rib pain and various abrasions. Both suspects were arrested at the scene. While police noted physical evidence on Gutierrez, including dried blood on his hands, both men have disputed the allegations.
