Two men die on Tarragona beaches as drowning alerts rise

Two men lost their lives after drowning on separate beaches in the Tarragona province of Spain. The first incident occurred at a beach in the municipality of Cunit, where a 70‑year‑old man suffered a medical emergency in the water and could not be revived despite rapid rescue efforts. Hours later, a 37‑year‑old man was rescued unconscious from a cove in L’Hospitalet de l’Infant; after extended resuscitation attempts he too was pronounced dead.

The fatalities have increased the tally of drowning victims in Catalonia since the start of the summer season. Civil‑protection authorities reiterated the need for beachgoers to check sea conditions, obey flag signals, and take extra precautions, especially for the elderly, children and those with health problems. They urged immediate reporting of any danger to rescue teams to improve response times and prevent further tragedies.
