Two men face sentencing for murder and violent crimes

In separate criminal cases, two men have faced significant legal consequences for violent crimes.

Charles Carson-Dowdy, 31, of Mobile, Alabama, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges including murder through the use of a firearm, cyberstalking, and interstate domestic violence. The charges stem from the January 2, 2025, killing of his estranged girlfriend, Starmichael Tucker, in Pensacola, Florida. Court documents state that Carson-Dowdy traveled from Alabama to Florida with a handgun to confront Tucker after she attempted to end their relationship. Following a confrontation at her residence, Carson-Dowdy shot Tucker multiple times.

In California, Tyler Lawrence Finley, 30, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison for the murder and abuse of a 4-year-old girl, Nicole Blackerby. Finley pleaded guilty to murder and three counts of child cruelty. Prosecutors established that the child suffered physical trauma and starvation over several weeks before her death in December 2020. The sentencing followed a plea entered after a jury had been seated for the trial.
