Two men jailed for four years after armed robbery and apology at New Mills shop

Stephen Bradley, 56, and David Oakley, 48, broke into Maddy’s Store in New Mills, Derbyshire on 26 November 2025. Wearing balaclavas, they threatened the shopkeeper with a knife and an imitation firearm, demanding cash and stealing £4,000 worth of cigarettes, £200 in cash and nine bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey. During the robbery the pair argued, with one using the fake name “Charles” and the other refusing to take the loot. Oakley paused to apologise, saying, “Sorry love, sorry love, we really are. We’ll never come again, we’ll never hurt you. We’re very sorry.” The men were identified, arrested within days and pleaded guilty. Both were sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on 24 June 2026.
