Two men jailed for violent disorder at Essex asylum hotel protests

Two men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in violent disorder during protests outside the Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex. The protests, which occurred on July 17, 2025, targeted the hotel while it was being used to house asylum seekers.

Jonathan Glover, 48, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of violent disorder. Evidence showed Glover shouting at officers and impeding police vehicles. Charlie Land, 24, received a 32-month sentence for violent disorder and criminal damage, following footage showing him repeatedly damaging police vehicles.

These convictions bring the total number of men sentenced for their roles in the disorder to 11. Ten individuals have already been sentenced to a combined total of more than 17 years in prison, with one person awaiting sentencing in November. Chief Inspector Terry Fisher noted that the disorder left the community scared and disrupted local businesses.
