Two men jailed in separate UK rape convictions

Two separate sexual assault cases in the United Kingdom have resulted in prison sentences for the perpetrators.

In Cornwall, Craig Brassington was sentenced to eight years in prison at Truro Crown Court for raping a woman he met online. The incident occurred in the summer of 2021 after the pair had been drinking at a pub. Brassington directed a taxi to his caravan rather than the victim's home, where the assaults took place. He also faced charges for attempting to prevent the victim from providing evidence through messages and emails. A ten-year restraining order has been issued.

In Scotland, William Murdoch was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow to seven years for the rape of a 19-year-old woman. Murdoch lured the victim to his flat in Saltcoats by offering to charge her phone. The court heard that Murdoch attempted to deceive visitors by claiming the victim was a homeless person sleeping on his sofa during the incident. Murdoch has been placed on the sex offenders register and received an indefinite restraining order.
