Three gang members sentenced to more than 91 years for homicide in Tangará da Serra, Brazil

A jury in Tangará da Serra, Mato Grosso, sentenced Everaldo Santos da Silva, Gabriel Marques de Abreu and Guilherme Navarro da Silva to a combined total of over 91 years in prison. The court found them guilty of qualified homicide, aggravated robbery and corruption of minors for the May 24, 2024 killing of Marciano Alves de Senna. According to the prosecution, the three men, together with two adolescents, invaded the victim’s home, restrained his family, stole a motorcycle and phones, and took Marciano to a pasture area where a criminal “tribunal of the crime” was staged by a drug‑trafficking faction. There, he was tortured, had an ear cut off and was beaten to death with knives. The jury concluded the murder was motivated by a factional dispute over drug‑traffic control and was carried out with cruelty, using a weapon that made defense difficult. The magistrate emphasized that only the state has authority to judge and punish, ordering immediate execution of the sentences and initial incarceration in a closed‑regime prison.
