Two men receive life sentences for separate murder convictions
Two separate murder cases resulted in life sentences on Monday. In Shreveport, 23-year-old Dewayne Wilkinson was sentenced to a mandatory life term for the 2023 murder of Laroyce Daniel Brown. Wilkinson shot Brown more than 20 times with a rifle at a residence on Anna Street before fleeing. Evidence presented at trial included 21 shell casings and DNA linking the victim to bloodstained clothing.
In Richfield, 38-year-old Shay Michael Benson received a life sentence for the murder of his roommate, Jennifer. Benson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder while committing domestic abuse. Investigators found evidence of a struggle and attempted cleanup at the scene, contradicting Benson’s initial claim that the victim had injured herself in the shower. Benson will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years.
