Two men sentenced for manslaughter following fatal shootings
Two separate legal proceedings concluded recently involving guilty pleas for manslaughter in connection with fatal shootings in the United States.
In Macon, Georgia, Keywan Capers was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and other charges. The sentencing follows a 2023 incident where Capers, while intoxicated, engaged in a dispute over a vehicle that escalated into a confrontation with a neighbor, Christopher Matthew Rachalla. Capers shot Rachalla, took his firearm, and fled the scene. Capers will serve 20 years for voluntary manslaughter and a concurrent 20-year sentence for robbery by intimidation.
In Columbus, North Carolina, William Nelson Campbell, 22, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter regarding the April 2024 shooting death of 20-year-old Dwight Alex Bennett. The incident occurred at the Ashley Meadow Apartments during an attempted marijuana sale. Campbell was sentenced to a minimum of 63 months and a maximum of 88 months in the North Carolina prison system. The plea agreement resolved an initial second-degree murder charge.
