Two men shot dead in Caruaru, Brazil; four suspects arrested

On July 9, 2026, a double homicide occurred in the Favela da Locar, Pinheirópolis district of Caruaru, Pernambuco. The victims were identified as José Orlando Silva de Barros, 34, and Rafael Galdino da Silva, 43. Police responded within two hours, detaining two men and seizing two adolescents suspected of planning a third killing linked to a drug‑trafficking dispute. During the operation at Sítio Cipó, authorities recovered two revolvers and quantities of crack, cocaine and marijuana.

The killings raise Caruaru's homicide count to seven for July and 71 for the year, contributing to a statewide total of 1,484 murders since January. The swift arrests aim to curb further violence tied to the local drug market.
