Two Mexican Police Officers Arrested for CJNG‑linked Murder of Uruapan Mayor

The Michoacán state prosecutor announced the arrest of two police officers — Héctor Hugo “N”, an agent of the State Investigation Police, and Juan Luis “N”, a member of the State Civil Guard’s forest crime unit — for their roles in a Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) cell that organized the November 1 killing of Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, mayor of Uruapan.

The arrests, made on May 21 and 22, yielded five mobile phones, forged identification, ammunition, marijuana packages, cash and a vehicle. Both officers were reported to have reported police operations to cartel leaders Wendy Fabiola “La Tía”, who works under Gerardo Rodríguez “El Congo”, a senior CJNG figure in Uruapan. They face charges of qualified homicide, organized crime and drug‑related offenses, and the investigation remains ongoing.
