Two fatalities and four injuries on Sergipe state highways during Corpus Christi holiday
The Sergipe State Highway Patrol (BPRv) released a partial report of its Operation Corpus Christi on the state's roads from Wednesday, June 3, to Friday, June 5. Four traffic accidents were recorded, causing four injuries and two deaths.
The first incident occurred on the SE‑270 near the village of Colônia Treze, Lagarto, where a bus struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The second accident, also on June 3, involved a VW Golf colliding with a Fiat Siena on the SE‑431 in Maruim, injuring two occupants.
The most severe crashes happened on Friday, June 5, on the SE‑230. In Poço Redondo's Sítios Novos, a truck collided with a motorcycle, killing a two‑year‑old child who was a passenger. Later that evening, near Vila dos Padres in Nossa Senhora da Glória, a Volkswagen Fox hit a Honda CG‑125, resulting in the death of the 45‑year‑old motorcyclist. Emergency services, the Criminalistics Institute and the Institute of Legal Medicine conducted on‑site investigations.
BPRv urged drivers to exercise heightened caution during the extended holiday, emphasizing adherence to traffic rules and safe driving practices to prevent further loss of life on state highways.
