Two Nepalese nationals detained with gold and silver at India-Nepal border

Two Nepalese nationals were apprehended by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) while attempting to transport undeclared gold and silver across the India-Nepal border in West Bengal.

During routine checks at the New Mechi Bridge near Panitanki, SSB officials intercepted a Maruti Suzuki WagonR traveling from Nepal to India. A baggage screening revealed various items, including a gold bar, chains, pendants, bangles, a bracelet, and silver bars and clubs. The occupants, identified as 68-year-old Bharat Kumar Agrawal of Kathmandu and 48-year-old driver Rajesh Oli of Jhapa, were unable to provide documentation or explanations for the undeclared precious metals.

Authorities are currently investigating whether the seized ornaments possess antique value. The individuals, the vehicle, and the seized goods have been handed over to the Panitanki Customs Office for legal action under the Customs Act, 1962.
