Two Nepali Women Suicide in Bengaluru After Family Opposition

Two young Nepali women, identified as Srijana (22‑24) and Rita (23‑24), were found dead by hanging in Yelahanka, Bengaluru on August 7. Police say they had arrived from Nepal about a month earlier and were placed in separate residences – Rita in Fraser Town and Srijana in Jakkur – after relatives opposed their romantic relationship.

Despite being kept apart, the women reportedly met several times a week and faced pressure from family members to marry men chosen by their relatives. The couple allegedly felt they had no future together because of societal and familial disapproval. Their bodies were discovered hanging from a tree near the Kisar Hotel on Jakkur Road. Bengaluru police have registered a case, are recording statements from family and relatives, and are conducting a post‑mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
