Coupe Icare festival: Two dead in hang gliding accident

Two people died following a hang gliding accident during the Coupe Icare festival in Isère, France. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning during takeoff near Saint-Hilaire and Lumbin, close to Grenoble.

The victims, identified as an experienced pilot in his forties and a passenger, were involved in a tandem flight. Reports indicate the aircraft may have struck a cliff despite the deployment of a reserve parachute. The High Mountain Gendarmerie (PGHM) responded to the scene around 8:15 AM.

Organizers of the annual aerial sports festival have suspended the day's flight activities and expressed their condolences to the families. An investigation has been opened by the Grenoble prosecutor's office and assigned to the air transport gendarmerie brigade to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
