Two DIAS officers injured in Athens-Sunio traffic collision
Two DIAS police officers were injured in a serious traffic collision on the Athens-Sunio Avenue near Peukos on Saturday night. The accident occurred when a rental car, carrying four German tourists, reportedly attempted a sudden U-turn to head back toward Athens.
The vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane, striking the police motorcycle. The collision was severe, throwing both officers from the bike. Both were transported to the 401 General Military Hospital; while one was initially reported to be in serious condition, updated reports indicate that both are stable and their lives are not in danger, though they require several days of hospitalization and recovery.
Investigations by the Keratea Traffic Police revealed that the U-turn was attempted only 20 to 25 meters after a sharp curve, which significantly limited visibility and reaction time. The driver of the rental car underwent an alcohol test, which returned a negative result. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances and the driver's decision-making during the maneuver.
