Habiganj police officers face action over viral bribery videos

Two officers from the Chunarughat Police Station in Habiganj have faced disciplinary action following viral videos depicting alleged corruption.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Ilias Hossain was withdrawn from active duty and attached to the Habiganj Police Lines after a video surfaced in which he claimed to have purchased his police uniform with bribe money specifically to facilitate taking further bribes. The remarks were reportedly made during an investigation at Ranigaon Bazar.

Separately, ASI Atanu Banik has been implicated in a video showing him allegedly receiving money from a case complainant. In the footage, the complainant is heard stating that after an initial 6,000 taka payment, they were providing an additional 4,000 taka to meet a 10,000 taka demand. Banik has also faced prior allegations regarding the mistreatment of a woman during a case investigation.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police Md Tarek Mahmud and local station officials confirmed that investigations are underway to determine appropriate departmental actions.
