Two Residents Drown While Harvesting Clams on Vietnam's Kỳ Lộ River

On 27 July 2026, a 72‑year‑old man, Phạm Khởi Ng, and his 63‑year‑old wife, Đoàn Thị Đ, were found dead after drowning while harvesting clams on the Kỳ Lộ River near the Tuy An Bắc border in Đắk Lắk Province, Vietnam. The couple, residents of Tân Hòa village in Đồng Xuân commune, were reported missing around 11:30 a.m.; police, rescue units and locals searched the river but recovered the bodies in a deceased state.

Preliminary investigations suggest the victims may have entered a deep‑water area, encountered strong currents or a whirlpool, leading to the fatal incident. Local authorities have reiterated safety warnings, urging residents not to work alone on the river, to avoid hazardous sections, and to wear life jackets or other protective gear when collecting aquatic resources.
