Two security guards arrested for alleged assault of student in Ghana

Two security guards at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School have been arrested by the Upper East Regional Police Command for the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old student. The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Elvis Adongo and 72-year-old Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu, were reportedly involved in the incident after the victim entered the school security room to charge a tablet.

According to police investigations, Adongo allegedly admitted to having sexual relations with the victim. The suspects are currently in custody pending court appearances.

In response to the incident, Ghana’s Deputy Education Minister, Clement Apaak, has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate steps to protect the student. The Ministry’s intervention includes providing medical care, counseling, and addressing the student’s boarding status following the school's decision to withdraw her from the dormitory. Minister Apaak stated that the Ministry is seeking accountability and working to ensure the safety and support of students within the education system.
