Two separate fires damage property in British Columbia, one sparking arrests

Firefighters responded to a blaze at the vacant Evergreen Terrace community housing facility on Dowler Place in Victoria, British Columbia. The fire, reported at 3:45 p.m., was quickly contained by seven fire apparatus and 22 firefighters, causing minor facade damage and no injuries.

A second fire on Vancouver Island destroyed a historic 1930s logging railcar in Port Alberni. Police arrested three youths after video footage showed them entering the car before the flames. The railcar, part of the Alberni Pacific Railway heritage collection, suffered extensive damage.

Both incidents highlight ongoing fire safety concerns in the province, with the Port Alberni case involving criminal investigation and community calls for support to restore the historic artifact.
