Two separate house fires reported in Calgary and Edmonton

Two separate residential fires were reported in Alberta on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

In Calgary, firefighters responded to a basement fire in a home in the Tuxedo Park area around 12:20 p.m. After clearing heavy smoke with fans, crews discovered one person dead in the basement. The fire was contained to the structure, and an investigation into the cause is underway.

In Edmonton, residents in the Canora neighbourhood reported hearing an explosion followed by a fire near 155 Street and 102 Avenue. Edmonton Fire Rescue Services arrived to find the house fully involved in flames. While neighbors suggested the property might be abandoned, authorities have not yet confirmed its occupancy status. No injuries were reported in the Edmonton incident, and the Edmonton Police Service is assisting with the investigation.
