Multiple serious bike accidents injure riders across Germany

A 47‑year‑old motorcyclist from Viersen crashed on the Alter Steeg in Winnekendonk and was airlifted to a specialised clinic after sustaining severe injuries. In Viersen, a 63‑year‑old man riding an e‑scooter while intoxicated collided with a parked car, was taken to police custody, had his licence withdrawn and a blood sample taken.

In Straelen, a 57‑year‑old cyclist on a pedelec was struck by a car door that a 73‑year‑old driver opened, causing a heavy fall and serious injuries; he was transported by ambulance to hospital and police opened an investigation. Near Peißenberg, a 20‑year‑old motorcyclist without a licence and riding a bike listed for police search collided with a 60‑year‑old rider, injuring both riders and a passenger; the injured rider was flown by helicopter to a hospital.

A 23‑year‑old motorcyclist from Essen was badly hurt after his bike slipped on the B 229 near Halver, hit an oncoming car, then a house wall and caught fire. He was rescued by by‑standers, received first aid and was later airlifted to a larger clinic. The accident also caused light injuries to the car driver and a temporary closure of the road.
