Two suspects sought after stabbing of off-duty NYPD detective

Two Dominican nationals are at large following the stabbing and attempted robbery of an off-duty NYPD detective in New York City last Friday. The suspects have been identified as 24-year-old Sneider Mejia Bautista and 25-year-old Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo.

According to Department of Homeland Security sources, both men have extensive criminal records in New York. Mejia Bautista crossed the border near San Luis, Arizona, in December 2022 and has been under deportation orders since May. Despite an ICE detainer being filed following a weapon arrest in October, New York City sanctuary policies resulted in his release.

Jean Caraballo entered the country via the Arizona border in February 2023. He has been arrested five times in New York for various offenses, including drug possession and carrying a loaded firearm, but federal agents were reportedly not notified of these arrests in time to take custody.
