Eden Prairie High School homecoming game interrupted by shooting
Two teenagers were shot during the Eden Prairie High School homecoming football game against Minnetonka on Friday night. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. outside Aerie Stadium in the high school parking lot, following a large altercation on the west side of the stadium that police had previously broken up.
The victims, identified as males aged 17 and 18 from St. Paul, sustained non-life-threatening injuries to their lower extremities. Both were transported to Hennepin Healthcare. The 18-year-old was released from the hospital on Saturday, while the 17-year-old remained hospitalized.
Eden Prairie Police described the shooting as likely targeted and potentially gang-related. While authorities have not officially confirmed the specific group involved, law enforcement sources indicated the incident is related to Somali gang activity. The shooting prompted a rapid evacuation of the stadium, and the game was postponed. No arrests have been made, and police are currently searching for a getaway vehicle.
